Myth & Magick: Grace or Fate
Completed May 2009.
11"x14"; pen&ink on watercolor paper.

Three is a number especially linked with the divine feminine, most frequently seen in modern paganism via the Goddess' symbol of the triple moon, and her depiction as a trinity of Maiden, Mother, and Crone. Tracing back through various mythologies, especially Greek, goddesses often come in threes.

The three Fates: Clotho, who weaves the thread of your lifetime; Lachesis, who measures its length; and Atropos, who cuts it at the time of your death.

And the three Graces: Aglaea, beauty; Euphrosyne, mirth; and Thalia, good cheer.

What appears to be one might be the other. What appears different might actually be the same. How can you tell? Are the differences inherent or dependent on context?

Also addressed here is the concept of a trinity; three beings intertwined such that it is not really possible to tell where one stops and the next begins, for each single concept means less when not in the context of its sisters. ?php include ('includes/footer3.inc'); ?>
