Activist Art: NOT YOURS

The message of this piece is centered on reproductive freedom, but many of the statements apply to gender identity and expression, religious freedom, disability rights, and gender equality as a whole. In short: my body is mine and mine alone. I and I alone have the right to control what happens within its borders, and to declare my own experience.
The text of this piece is a combination of slogans popular in the world of pro-choice activism, and my own formulations of statements important to the ideals of personal freedom. "Trust women" is worthy of particular note, as it was a favorite motto of Dr. George Tiller, the doctor who was murdered in his church because of his work in abortion care. This piece was part of the 2010 Reproductive Justice Arts Extravaganza juried art show, and won top prize in the 2-D category. Half the proceeds from print sales will be donated to the National Network of Abortion Funds.

CONTROL THE CONTENTS OF YOUR OWN UTERUS.

IF POTENTIAL FOR LIFE EQUALED LIFE, EVERY WET DREAM WOULD BE GENOCIDE.
